The psalm says, Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. There are two commands, to serve and to come, and both are done with joy. Service is not a chore to be endured. It is a privilege, a way of drawing near to the One we love. Singing suggests that gladness is not hidden but expressed. It changes the whole feel of what we do.
It is easy to serve out of obligation, and to grow tired and resentful. This verse invites us to reset our attitude. Before you serve today, whether at home, work, or church, take a moment to come before His presence with thanks. Hum a song. Remember that you are serving Him. If your service has lost its joy, ask God to renew it, or to change how you do it. Gladness makes work light and witness attractive. Gladness is contagious, and people are drawn to those who serve with joy.
