The waiting ends in gladness for those who trust Him to save.
“And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”Isaiah 25:9 (KJV)
What does “Salvation” mean in Isaiah 25:9?
Salvation here means rescue. The people say we have waited for him twice, and the waiting is remembered as worth it.
Going deeper
This verse looks ahead to a day when God's people will point and say, this is our God. Notice that they speak with certainty. They are not guessing. They waited, and their waiting was not wasted. The verse does not hide that waiting is hard, but it promises that the story does not end in waiting. That is worth holding onto in a season of waiting, because waiting often tempts us to think that nothing is happening.
The first week of Advent closes with this picture. We have spent seven days thinking about hope, and hope has a destination. The people in the verse are glad because the God they trusted showed up and saved. In the New Testament, that rescue takes on a face and a name. As you wait this season, look forward with confidence. The God who saves has not changed, and gladness is coming for all who have trusted Him.
