After meeting Christ, ordinary life becomes a place of praise.

What does “Return” mean in Luke 2:20?
The shepherds went back to the same fields, the same sheep, and the same work. What changed was how they lived it: glorifying and praising God.
Going deeper
Luke ends the birth story with the shepherds going back to work. Nothing about their job changed. They still had sheep to watch and nights to spend outdoors. But they returned praising God for what they had heard and seen, and Luke adds that all of it was just as it was told to them. What God said proved true.
This verse says something important about how faith works in everyday life. Encounters with God are not only for special places. They are meant to send us back into our regular lives, changed. The week after Christmas can feel flat, with the decorations still up and the excitement fading. It is a good time to ask how we will carry the wonder into ordinary days. One way is to end each day by naming something you saw God do. Like the shepherds, you can go back to your normal work and let it become a place of praise.
