Your life is meant to point people to the Father, not to yourself.

What does “Light” mean in Matthew 5:16?
Jesus uses the Greek word phos. In the verse just before this one, He tells His disciples, Ye are the light of the world.
Going deeper
A light is not meant to be admired. It is meant to be used. Jesus says a city on a hill cannot be hidden, and no one lights a lamp to put it under a basket. The light is not our own. We reflect what Christ has given us, and the goal is that people glorify the Father, not us. Good works are the visible proof, done quietly and steadily in ordinary places like a workplace, a home, and a neighborhood.
