The Greek word is pistis, which holds trust, confidence, and faithfulness together. The words behind substance and evidence were the language of deeds and proof.

Hebrews 11 walks through Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, and others who acted on what God said before they saw it happen. Faith in Scripture is never only a feeling or a belief held in the head. It shows up as obedience. Abraham left home not knowing where he was going. That is the pattern: hope holds the promise, and faith moves toward it.
