We can set up markers of thanks, remembering that the LORD has helped us so far.

What does “Hitherto helped” mean in 1 Samuel 7:12?
Samuel set up a stone after God gave Israel victory over their enemies. He named it Ebenezer, which means stone of help, as a memorial for future generations.

The Bible says, Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us. Hitherto means up to this point. The stone was a marker, a reminder that God had been faithful. Samuel could not say what the future held, but he could say that so far God had helped. It was a statement of gratitude and a foundation for trust.
You can create your own Ebenezer. Choose a small object, a stone, a note, a photo, or write a sentence in a journal that says, hitherto hath the LORD helped me. Place it where you will see it. Then, when you face uncertainty, look at it. It reminds you that God has carried you through before. The one who helped you up to now will not abandon you in what comes next. Look at your marker often, and give thanks again.
