What does “All things new” mean in Revelation 21:5?
John hears the One on the throne speak these words in his vision of the end of the story. The command to write emphasizes that the promise can be trusted.

In John's vision, the One seated on the throne declares, Behold, I make all things new. Then He tells John to write it down, for these words are true and faithful. This is the future God has promised: not just a repair of the old, but a renewal of everything. Sorrow, death, and pain will be gone. The promise is not vague. It is described as true and faithful, and God asks that it be recorded so people can hold on to it.
That promise gives us hope in the middle of what is broken. It also means that God's renewal is already at work in us and around us, in small ways now. Think of one area of your life or your community that needs renewing. Pray that God would begin to make it new, and look for one step you could take to join Him. Hold on to the promise with confidence. The One who makes all things new keeps His word.
