Our true life is safely held with Christ in God.
“For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”Colossians 3:3 (KJV)
What does “Hidden life” mean in Colossians 3:3?
Paul tells believers that they have died to the old life and that their real life is now hidden with Christ. The word hid suggests protection and security, a life kept safe.
Going deeper
Paul writes, ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. It is an unusual sentence. The old self, with its patterns and fears, has died with Christ. And the new life is not left exposed. It is hidden in Christ, who is in God. That is about as safe as a life can be. Our identity and our future are held in the hands that hold the universe.
That does not mean life is easy, but it does mean our deepest self is secure. When others misjudge you, when you fail, when circumstances shake you, your true life is not at the mercy of those things. Rest in that today. Say, my life is hidden with Christ in God, and let it settle your anxious thoughts. Then live from that security, with less need to prove yourself or to protect your image. Let that truth lower your guard against anxiety and raise your confidence in God.
Reflect
What would change in your day if you truly believed your life is hidden with Christ in God?
Pray
Lord, thank You that my life is hidden with Christ in You. Let that security steady me and free me from fear. In Jesus' name, amen.
