Those who love Jesus become a home where the Father and the Son live.
“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”John 14:23 (KJV)
What does “Abode” mean in John 14:23?
The Greek word for abode means a dwelling place, the same word Jesus used for the rooms in His Father's house. He promises that the Father and He will make their home with the one who loves Him.
Going deeper
Jesus has just told His disciples that a place has been prepared for them. Now He turns it around. If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. The dwelling place is not only in heaven. It is in the person who loves Him. God makes His home in us.
That changes how we think about ordinary life. Our kitchens, cars, workplaces, and quiet moments become places where God is present, because He lives in those who love Him. It also gives obedience its right place. We keep His words not to earn His love but because we love Him and want to live in the home He has made with us. Welcome Him today into the ordinary corners of your life, and let them be places of His presence. Home is where He is welcome.
