Peacemakers reflect the character of God.
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”Matthew 5:9 (KJV)
What does “Peacemakers” mean in Matthew 5:9?
The Greek word eirenopoios means peacemaker, one who makes peace. Jesus says that such people will be called the children of God, because they resemble their Father.
Going deeper
Peacemaker is different from peace-lover. A peace-lover avoids conflict and hopes it will go away, while a peacemaker steps in and works to bring reconciliation. That takes courage, honesty, and humility. Jesus calls such people blessed, and He says they show a family likeness to God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ.
Peacemaking begins close to home. It may mean being the first to apologize, calling a friend after an argument, or helping two people talk who have stopped speaking. It is not about pretending problems do not exist. It is about pursuing peace in a way that respects truth and love. Consider a relationship where there is tension. What is one step you could take toward peace this week? Pray for wisdom, and take that step, trusting God to bless the effort. Jesus Himself is the greatest peacemaker, because He made peace between God and us through the cross. We follow Him when we work to mend what is broken.
