Waiting on the Lord is where tired people are made strong.
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
What does “Strength” mean in Isaiah 40:31?
The Hebrew for wait is qavah, to wait with expectation, and it is related to a word for a twisted cord. Renew is chalaph, to exchange: our weakness for His strength.
Going deeper
Isaiah spoke to people worn down by exile who thought God had forgotten them. The verse before says even the young grow faint and fall. Human strength has limits. Notice the order: mount up, run, walk. The hardest is the last, walking without fainting. It is the steady, daily faithfulness that has no excitement to carry it.
