The path of the faithful grows brighter as they keep walking.
“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.”Proverbs 4:18 (KJV)
What does “Shining more” mean in Proverbs 4:18?
The verse compares the path of the just to the light of dawn, growing stronger until the full brightness of day. It describes steady growth, not sudden perfection.
Going deeper
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The image is a sunrise. At first there is a faint glow on the horizon, and gradually it gets brighter, until the whole landscape is lit. That is how growth in the life of faith often works. We do not usually become wise or holy overnight. We take steps, and the light gets clearer as we go.
This can be a comfort if you feel that you have not come very far. Small progress counts. It also encourages us to keep walking rather than waiting for complete clarity before we begin. The light shows the next stretch of road, and then more. Look back over the past year and notice where you can see growth, even slight. Thank God for it. Then take one more step today, knowing that the path is heading toward the perfect day.
Reflect
Where can you see growth in your walk with God over the past year?
Pray
Lord, thank You for the light that grows brighter as I follow You. Help me to keep walking, one step at a time. In Jesus' name, amen.
