God has chosen His people and called them out of darkness to tell of His goodness.
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”1 Peter 2:9 (KJV)
What does “Royal priesthood” mean in 1 Peter 2:9?
Peter uses titles once given to Israel and applies them to all believers: a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. The purpose is to show forth the praises of the One who called them.

Peter says to the believers scattered across many lands, ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. These are rich names, and each one says that we belong to God. Peculiar here means treasured, a people God holds as His own. The reason for the honor is a purpose: to make His praises known.
Identity and mission are joined. We are chosen so that others can see what God is like. That means your ordinary life is a platform for praise: how you work, how you love, and how you speak about what God has done. Ask where you could show forth His praises this week. It might be a word of thanks, a testimony, or a kindness. You were called out of darkness into marvellous light, and that light is meant to be seen.
