Jesus offers to satisfy our thirst, and living water flows from those who believe.
“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”John 7:37-38 (KJV)
What does “Living water” mean in John 7:37-38?
Jesus made this invitation on the last day of a great feast, which many believe included a ceremony of pouring out water. John explains a few verses later that He was speaking about the Holy Spirit.
Going deeper
Jesus stood up in the crowd on the last day of the feast and cried out, if any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. It was a public, open invitation. Anyone could come. And He adds a promise: he that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. The belly in the old language means the innermost being. From deep inside, streams of life would flow out.
John tells us in the next verse that this spoke of the Spirit, whom believers would receive after Jesus was glorified. It is a picture of overflowing life. Notice that the water does not stop with us. It flows out to others. If you feel dry today, come and drink. Bring your thirst to Jesus, and ask Him to fill you. Then look for ways to let that life flow out through kindness, encouragement, and generosity.

Lord Jesus, I am thirsty, and I come to You. Fill me with Your Spirit, and let living water flow through me to others. In Jesus' name, amen.
