God's plan was always bigger than one people. His salvation is for the ends of the earth.
“And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.”Isaiah 49:6 (KJV)
What does “Light to the nations” mean in Isaiah 49:6?
God speaks to His servant about a mission larger than restoring Israel. The servant will also be a light to the Gentiles, bringing salvation to the whole world.
Going deeper
God says to His servant that restoring one people is a light thing, and so He gives a greater purpose: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. Christians see this fulfilled in Jesus. From the beginning, God's plan reached beyond one nation. His salvation was meant for everyone, in every land and language.
That should shape how we see the world. Our concern is not only for our own family or church. God's heart reaches to the ends of the earth, and He invites us to share in it. You can pray for a nation by name, give to a mission, or befriend someone from another culture. Choose one way to take part this week. God's light was never meant to stay in one place, and He has chosen to spread it through His people.
