We can approach God freely because of Christ.

What does “Confidence” mean in Hebrews 4:16?
The Greek word translated boldly is parrhesia, which means freedom to speak openly and without fear. The throne is described as a throne of grace, which means it is a place of welcome rather than dread.
Going deeper
The writer of Hebrews has just explained that Jesus is a great high priest who understands our weaknesses, because He has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Because of Him, we can come to God's throne with confidence. This is remarkable. A throne normally suggests distance and fear. Here it is a place of grace, where we receive mercy for our failures and help for our needs.
Many people approach God cautiously, as if they must first get their lives in order. This verse invites us to come as we are, at the very moment we need help. Notice the phrase in time of need. God does not wait until we are polished. Bring Him what is on your heart today, whether it is a failure, a fear, or a request. Come boldly, not because of who you are, but because of the One who opened the way for you.
