What does “Burning hearts” mean in Luke 24:32?
The disciples say their hearts burned within them as Jesus talked on the road and opened the Scriptures. The word opened means He explained and unfolded what they had not understood.
Going deeper
After Jesus revealed Himself to the two travelers, they looked back on the road and said to each other, did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way? He had started with Moses and all the prophets and shown them what the Scriptures said about Himself. They had known these words for years, but now they saw them in a new light. Understanding brought warmth, not just information.
This is what the Bible is meant to do for us. It is not only a book of facts. When Christ opens it, it becomes personal and alive. If your reading has felt dry, ask Him to open the Scriptures to you, as He did on that road. Choose one short passage today, read it slowly, and ask what it shows you about Jesus. Let a small spark of warmth begin, and notice what it makes you want to do.
