The psalmist longs for the temple, where God's presence was known. He says he would rather be a humble doorkeeper there than live comfortably among those who ignore God.

The writer says, a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. He goes on: I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. He is comparing values. A humble job near God is worth more than a life of ease without Him. It is not that the psalmist despised comfort, but that he had tasted something better and could not settle for less.
We often chase things that promise a good life: comfort, status, entertainment. This verse invites us to ask what we really treasure. What would you be willing to give up to spend time in God's presence? Perhaps a few minutes of scrolling, an hour of sleep, or a distraction. Try choosing God's courts over something lesser today. Spend a few quiet minutes with Him, and notice what it is worth. Notice how the time you give Him returns to you as peace and clarity.
