Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us, and He will welcome us Himself.
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”John 14:2-3 (KJV)
What does “A place” mean in John 14:2-3?
The King James word mansions translates a Greek word meaning dwelling places or rooms. Jesus promises that there is room in His Father's house and that He Himself will receive us.
Going deeper
Jesus tells troubled disciples where He is going and why. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. The picture is of a home with room for everyone who belongs to Him. And He adds a promise: I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. The welcome is personal. He receives us Himself.
Christians have different views about the details of what comes next, but we agree on this: He has made a place for us, and we will be with Him. That changes how we view leaving, waiting, and even loss. If you feel like you do not belong anywhere, remember that you have a place already prepared. Let that give you courage today to live with generosity and peace, knowing that home is secure.
