What does “Commit” mean in Proverbs 16:3?
The word commit means to roll something onto another. The proverb invites us to roll our work onto the LORD, and it says our thoughts will then be established and made firm.

Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. To commit is to hand over, to entrust. Before we begin a project, a conversation, or a season of work, we can place it in God's hands. The result is that our thoughts become steady. Much of our anxiety comes from carrying plans alone, and this verse offers another way. When the work belongs to God, our minds can rest.
Try it with something you are facing today. Name the task, the meeting, or the decision. Say to God, I commit this to You. Then do your part with care, and leave the result with Him. This is not laziness or a lack of planning. It is planning while trusting. You may find that your thinking is clearer and your heart calmer when you have first committed the work to the LORD. A committed task is a task you can carry more lightly. Give it to Him now.
