Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. It is easy to think we can decide everything by ourselves. This proverb says that is risky. We all have blind spots. Other people, especially those who are wiser or more experienced, can see what we miss. Seeking counsel is not weakness. It is one of the ways wisdom shows itself, and it protects us from mistakes that we might make alone.
Think about a decision you are facing. Who could you ask for advice? Choose people who know you, who love God, and who will speak honestly. Ask them to pray with you and to tell you what they see. Then listen without defending yourself. You do not have to follow every suggestion, but you will be safer for having heard them. Invest in a few trusted counselors, and go to them early rather than late.
