Love is the one debt we will never finish paying, and it fulfills the whole law.

What does “Debt of love” mean in Romans 13:8?
Paul says to owe nothing to anyone except love. Because love never harms a neighbor, he says it sums up all the commandments about how to treat people.
Going deeper
Paul writes, Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. He is not saying we may never borrow money. He is saying that love is a debt we always owe and can never fully repay. Every person we meet is owed our care. And he adds that this debt sums up the law: when we love others, we are doing what God's commands were aiming at all along.
That turns love from an optional extra into something owed. Each day, we have a standing obligation to show love to those around us. It may be a smile, a word of thanks, a helping hand, or forgiveness. Ask at the start of the day, whom do I owe love to today? Then pay a little of that debt, knowing you will never be finished. In that ongoing effort, we live out the heart of all that God asks.
