What does “Shadow of the Almighty” mean in Psalm 91:1-2?
The psalm uses the picture of a shelter and a shadow. To dwell in the secret place of the Most High means to make God's presence one's regular home, not a place to visit only in emergencies.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. The verb is dwell. It is about where we live, not where we run in a panic. Then the psalmist says, I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Notice the personal words: my refuge, my fortress, my God. This is a declaration made out loud.
Dwelling in God's presence is built by daily habits: prayer, Scripture, thanks, and quiet. Then when trouble comes, we are already at home in Him. Try saying the words of verse 2 aloud today, replacing the general with the specific: Lord, You are my refuge in this situation, and I will trust You. Speaking it strengthens the heart. Make a habit of returning to His shelter often, not only when the storm is loud.
