Those who stand firm under testing will receive the crown of life.

What does “Endurance” mean in James 1:12?
The word blessed means deeply fortunate, and endureth means to stand firm under pressure. James says that being tried, like metal being tested, leads to the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. James is writing to believers under pressure, and he begins by calling their endurance a blessing. The word tried means tested and proved. Like gold in a fire, faith that has been tested shows what it is made of. The reward is not a passing thing but the crown of life.
Notice who receives the crown: those who love Him. Endurance in the Bible is not gritted teeth alone. It is love for God that keeps us faithful when things are hard. If you are in a difficult stretch, your endurance matters more than you may realize. Ask God for strength to continue, and remember that He is with you. Tell Him you love Him, even when it is hard to feel it. He has promised a reward to those who remain faithful.
