The Hebrew behind perfect peace repeats the word shalom, which suggests peace upon peace, complete wholeness. The mind stayed on God is one that leans on Him and stays supported.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. The original language doubles the word for peace, giving the sense of deep, complete peace. It is not the calm of having no problems. It is the steadiness of a mind that is propped up by God. The word stayed carries the idea of leaning, like a person resting on a wall. Peace comes from what we lean on.
Our minds are constantly pulled toward worries, headlines, and unfinished tasks. This verse offers a practice: set your mind on God again and again. You may need to do it many times a day. Try a short phrase, such as, Lord, I trust You, and repeat it when anxiety rises. Keep a verse on your phone or on a note. As you turn your mind to Him, His peace steadies you, one return at a time.
