What does “New song” mean in Psalm 96:1-2?
The psalm calls for a new song and for the whole earth to join. It asks for praise that tells of God's salvation from day to day, not just on special occasions.

O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. The psalm is a missionary song. It invites not only Israel but all the earth to praise. A new song suggests fresh gratitude for what God is doing now, not only what He did in the past. Praise keeps growing because He keeps acting.
Notice the phrase from day to day. We are asked to show forth His salvation every day, in our words and in our lives. That is a beautiful vision for a global church: voices in every language, every day, telling what God has done. You can join in by singing at home, by telling a friend what God did for you this week, or by praying for those in other places who are worshipping Him. Add your voice to the song.
