Even a small kindness done in Jesus' name is noticed and remembered by God.

What does “Cup of water” mean in Matthew 10:42?
A cup of cold water was a simple gift of hospitality in a hot climate. Jesus says that even something this small, given in His name to one of His followers, will not go unrewarded.
Going deeper
Jesus is speaking to His disciples about the costs and rewards of following Him. Then He says something tender about the smallest kind of kindness. Whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. The gift is tiny. The attention of heaven is not.
It is easy to think that only large acts of service matter. Jesus says otherwise. A glass of water, a ride, a sandwich, a listening ear: these are noticed. They also change the person who gives, making us more attentive to others' needs. Look for the small thing you could do today. Offer it quietly, without needing thanks. The reward is His to give, and He does not forget. Kindness like this is within reach of everyone, whatever they have, and it can be done today.
