God alone is our steady rock, and our souls can rest in Him.

Psalm 62 begins with a confident statement: truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. The word only appears repeatedly in this psalm, as David insists that God alone is his rock. He says, he only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. Notice that he does not say he will never be moved. He says not greatly. Life shakes us, but it does not topple those who stand on Him.
Many of us try to find stability in several things at once: income, reputation, relationships, routines. David says to wait on God alone and find rest there. That does not mean the other things are worthless, only that they cannot bear the weight of our souls. Try a few minutes of quiet today. Say the words, my soul waits for God alone, and let the phrase slow you down. A rock does not need to hurry, and neither do those who rest on it.
