Our work for the Lord is never wasted.
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV)
What does “Steadfast” mean in 1 Corinthians 15:58?
The Greek words for stedfast and unmoveable describe someone firmly seated and not easily shaken. Paul ends with the assurance that labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Going deeper
Paul spends a whole chapter explaining the resurrection of Jesus and the hope it gives us, and then he closes with this practical instruction. Because of the resurrection, our work matters. We should stand firm and keep abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that nothing done for Him is wasted. It is one of the most encouraging verses in the New Testament for anyone who is tired or unnoticed.
Many of us do faithful work that seems to go nowhere. We pray for a family member for years, serve in a small way, or keep doing what is right when no one notices. Paul assures us that God sees it all, and that it counts. Take heart today. If you are weary, ask God to make you steady and to remind you of the resurrection hope. Then keep going, one faithful step at a time. Your labor in the Lord is never in vain.
