God made us in Christ for good works that He has prepared for us.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)
What does “Workmanship” mean in Ephesians 2:10?
The Greek word for workmanship is poiema, which means something made with care, like a work of art. The word is the root of our word poem.
Going deeper
Paul has just explained that we are saved by grace through faith, not by our works. Then he adds this verse to show what salvation is for. We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. Those works do not earn our salvation. They flow from it. And remarkably, God has prepared them ahead of time for us to walk in.
This gives our lives dignity and direction. We are not accidents, and our days are not empty. God has already prepared good things for us to do, whether they are acts of kindness, service, or courage. That means we can approach each day with expectation. Ask God each morning, what have You prepared for me today? Then watch for the opportunities, and step into them. You are His work of art, made for a purpose. Nothing about you is an accident, and nothing about your story is wasted in His hands. He is still working on you, and through you.
