The instruction is short: Use hospitality one to another without grudging. In the first century, travelers relied on believers to take them in, and this could be costly and inconvenient. Peter does not pretend it is easy. He asks that it be done without grumbling. It is possible to do the right thing with a sour heart, and Peter says that is not the goal. God wants a welcome that is warm and willing.
If hospitality feels like a burden, look at what is making it so. Perhaps you feel you must impress people, or you are overextended. Simplify. A simple meal, a cup of coffee, or an open door with a warm smile is enough. Invite someone into your home or your life this week in the simplest way you can, and pray for a cheerful heart as you do. A welcome given gladly is a gift that people remember.
