The water Jesus gives becomes a spring inside us that never runs dry.
“But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”John 4:14 (KJV)
What does “Springing up” mean in John 4:14?
Jesus says this to a woman at a well in Samaria. He contrasts ordinary water, which satisfies for only a while, with a gift that becomes a lasting source of life within.
Going deeper
Jesus told the woman, whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. She had come to draw water in the heat of the day, and He offered something deeper. Ordinary water satisfies for a few hours. What Jesus gives becomes a well within, always fresh, always rising.
That has a purpose beyond ourselves. A spring does not only fill one cup. Right after this conversation, the woman went back to her town and told everyone about Jesus. What Jesus gives is meant to overflow to others. If you feel dry, come to Him and drink. If you have been refreshed, ask who near you is thirsty. A word of your own story may be the water they need today. Let what you have received be shared with someone near you today.
