Today the promise is fulfilled: a Savior has been born for you.

What does “Savior” mean in Luke 2:11?
The angel gives three titles: Saviour, Christ, and Lord. Christ is the Greek word for Messiah, God's chosen and anointed King.
Going deeper
The good news came first to shepherds, working through the night in the fields near Bethlehem. The angel's words are personal: unto you is born. This birth was not a distant event for important people. It was for them, and it is for us. Each of the three titles adds something. A Saviour rescues, the Christ fulfills God's promises, and the Lord has authority over everything. Together they say who He is.
The ancient world was full of rulers who wanted to be called saviors, but they could only rescue people from armies and famine. This child came to rescue from something deeper: from sin, from separation from God, and from despair. On Christmas Day, receive the announcement as personal news. It is not merely a story about the past. A Savior has been born for you, and He is alive. Whatever you need rescuing from today, bring it to Him and rejoice.
