God promised a King who would rule with justice, and He kept that promise.
“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.”Jeremiah 23:5 (KJV)
What does “Righteousness” mean in Jeremiah 23:5?
The Hebrew word for Branch is tsemach, a new shoot that grows from a cut-down tree. Righteous here means right and just, someone who does what is fair and good.

Jeremiah spoke when the kings of Judah had failed badly and the royal family looked like a stump. God promised a new shoot from that stump, a King from David's line who would do what the others had not done. He would rule wisely and carry out judgment and justice in the land. Not just talk about them, but carry them out.
Christians have always seen this promise fulfilled in Jesus. His kingdom is different from the ones people build. It is marked by fairness for the poor, mercy for the struggling, and truth that does not bend. Advent is a good moment to ask whether our own lives reflect His kind of kingdom. Where do you have the ability to act justly this week? It might be in how you treat an employee, a neighbor, or a stranger. The King has come, and His people are meant to look like Him.
