Jesus welcomes children, and He asks us to welcome them too.
“But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.”Mark 10:14 (KJV)
What does “Little children” mean in Mark 10:14?
The disciples tried to keep parents from bringing their children to Jesus. Jesus was displeased and said that the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
Going deeper
The disciples thought Jesus was too busy and too important for children. Jesus was much displeased. He said, suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. It is one of the few times the Gospels say Jesus was displeased with His disciples. Children matter to Him. He stops what He is doing, takes them in His arms, and blesses them.
This verse asks us to look at how we treat children in our families, churches, and neighborhoods. Do we make room for them? Do we listen to them, teach them, and protect them? Perhaps you can encourage a child this week with a kind word or a simple gift of time. Perhaps you can support a ministry to children, or volunteer in a class. The kingdom belongs to such as these, and we serve Jesus when we welcome them.

Lord Jesus, thank You for welcoming children. Help me to make room for them, to protect them, and to point them to You. In Jesus' name, amen.
