Spiritual growth is gradual, one stage at a time, and God does the work.

What does “Growing” mean in Mark 4:28?
Jesus tells a short parable about a seed growing on its own. The earth produces first the blade, then the ear, and then the full grain.
Going deeper
In this parable, a farmer plants seed and goes about his life. Meanwhile, the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. The growth happens on its own schedule, in stages, and the farmer cannot rush it. Jesus uses this picture to describe how God's kingdom grows. It is quiet, patient, and steady, and it is God's work as much as ours.
If you are discouraged by how slowly you are growing, this parable is for you. You may be in the blade stage, and that is fine. The full grain will come. Do the things a farmer does: plant, water, weed, and wait. Read a little Scripture, pray, serve, and be patient. Do not compare your stage with someone else's. Thank God for the growth you can see, and trust Him with what you cannot see yet.
