The Hebrew word for frame comes from the word for a potter shaping clay. The verse says God knows exactly what we are made of and is mindful of it.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, when many Christians pause to remember how small and fragile human life is. Some mark the day with ashes, and others with a quiet prayer. Either way, the message is not meant to crush us. Psalm 103 does not say that God is disappointed that we are dust. It says He knows it and remembers it, the way a wise parent remembers how small a child is and sets the pace to match.
Honesty about our limits is where the season starts. We are not asked to pretend that we are strong, or to fix ourselves before we come to God. We are asked to come as we are, and to trust that the Potter who shaped us also has compassion for us. Over the coming weeks you may give something up or take something on. Begin today by telling God the truth about your weariness and your weakness, and let His tenderness meet you there.
