Forgiven people are happy people, because nothing is being hidden anymore.
“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.”Psalm 32:1-2 (KJV)
What does “Covered” mean in Psalm 32:1-2?
The Hebrew word for blessed means happy, and it describes people who are deeply fortunate. To have sin covered means God has dealt with it so that it no longer stands between us.

David wrote this after a season of hiding. In the verses that follow, he says that when he kept silent about his sin, he felt worn down day and night. When he finally confessed, God forgave him. So when he opens the psalm with blessed, he is speaking from experience. The happiness he describes is the relief of a heart with nothing left to hide. He also speaks of a spirit in which there is no guile, meaning no need for pretending.
Guilt kept quiet is heavy, and confession is lighter than we expect. If something has been sitting in the dark, consider bringing it into the light this week, first to God and, if appropriate, to a trusted friend or pastor. James writes that we should confess our faults one to another, that we may be healed. The aim is not humiliation. It is the freedom that David describes. You can be happy, because you are forgiven.
