On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit filled the first believers with power and joy.
“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”Acts 2:1-4 (KJV)
What does “Filled” mean in Acts 2:1-4?
Pentecost comes from the Greek word for fiftieth, the day of a Jewish harvest festival fifty days after Passover. That was the day the Spirit came, just as Jesus had promised.

The believers were gathered together in one place when a sound came from heaven like a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. Then something like tongues of fire appeared and rested on each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. The promise of the Father had arrived. The disciples were changed from waiting to witnessing.
Notice that the Spirit came upon all of them, not just the leaders. Every believer was included. And the outcome was not just a wonderful experience but a launch. They spoke, and the world began to hear. If you are a follower of Jesus, this promise is yours too. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh today, and be ready for the opportunities He brings. Let this day be a beginning, not only a memory.
