Jesus ascended to the Father, and He reigns with love and authority.

What does “Taken up” mean in Acts 1:9?
Forty days after Easter, Jesus was taken up into heaven while His disciples watched. The cloud in Scripture often signals the presence of God.
Going deeper
On the fortieth day after Easter, the church remembers the ascension. After appearing to His disciples over many days, Jesus led them out to the Mount of Olives. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. He did not vanish into nothing. He returned to the Father, to reign. The ascension is not a sad ending but the completion of His work, and the beginning of His rule over all.
The disciples were left looking up, but they were not left alone. Jesus had promised the Holy Spirit and had commissioned them to bear witness. The ascension tells us that a human being, Jesus, is now at the right hand of God, representing us. That is a great comfort. He is praying for us, and He has authority over everything that troubles us. Give thanks today that the risen Jesus is also the reigning Lord.
