The wise men followed the light they had, and it led them to Christ.

What does “Following” mean in Matthew 2:2?
The word worship comes from the Greek proskuneo, which means to bow down before someone. The visitors from the east came to honor the newborn King.
Going deeper
Matthew tells us that wise men came from the east, guided by a star. They were not Israelites, and they did not have the Scriptures that Israel had. Yet they saw the sign and traveled a long distance to worship. They asked a simple question in Jerusalem, and it troubled the whole city: where is he that is born King of the Jews?
Their story shows that God can draw people to Himself in many ways, and He rewards those who honestly seek. It also asks something of us. They did not stay home and admire the star from afar. They followed it, at real cost and effort. Where is God leading you to go, and what would it look like to follow the light you have been given? Take one step today toward Him. The journey begins with a single step. Tomorrow, the story of the wise men reaches its goal in worship.
