Forgiveness is not a count to be kept but a habit to be lived.
“Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”Matthew 18:21-22 (KJV)
What does “Seventy times seven” mean in Matthew 18:21-22?
Peter thought seven times was a generous limit for forgiving a brother. Jesus answered with seventy times seven, which means without limit, so that counting is forgotten.

Peter came to Jesus and asked, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Seven was already generous, since many teachers said three. Jesus replied, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. The point is not to reach 490 and stop. It is that forgiveness should be so ongoing that keeping score becomes impossible.
Forgiving someone repeatedly is hard, especially when the same offense returns. It does not mean ignoring harm or removing all boundaries. It does mean that we keep releasing the debt and refuse to build a wall of bitterness. Think about someone you have been keeping count with. Ask God to help you set down the tally. Take one step of forgiveness this week, in prayer or in person. We forgive because we have been forgiven far more. Ask God for grace for each new act of forgiveness, since He gives it freely. Forgiving again is a sign of His work in you.
