Giving thanks in every situation is part of what God asks of us.
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)
What does “In everything” mean in 1 Thessalonians 5:18?
Paul does not say to give thanks for everything, but in everything. Whatever the circumstance, there is something to thank God for, and this is His will for those who belong to Christ.

Paul writes, In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Note the preposition. We are not asked to feel grateful for tragedy or loss. We are asked to give thanks in the middle of every situation, since God is present and good in all of them. Thanksgiving is a stance of the heart that recognizes His faithfulness even when things are hard.
It helps to be specific. In a difficult day, find at least one thing to thank Him for: a friend, a meal, a moment of peace, a truth about Him. Say it aloud or write it down. Over time, the habit of thanks trains the eyes to see His care. Try keeping a short list this week, three thanks each evening. It will change how you see the day, and it is His will for you. Thankfulness in hard times is a quiet form of trust in God's goodness.
