What does “Live peaceably” mean in Romans 12:18?
Paul recognizes that peace does not always depend on us alone. He asks for our best effort, and he leaves the rest with God.

Paul writes, If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Two phrases matter here: if it be possible, and as much as lieth in you. Paul is realistic. Some people will not be at peace no matter what we do. But we are responsible for our part. That means being slow to anger, quick to apologize, and unwilling to stir up strife. Peace is not always in our control, but our effort is.
It can be freeing to remember that we are not responsible for how others respond. We can do everything within our reach and then leave the rest to God. Think about a strained relationship. What is one thing that lies within you to do? It might be a kind message, an apology, or simply refusing to retaliate. Do that one thing this week, and let go of the outcome. Peace-making is done in humility and left in God's hands.
