If God feeds the birds, we can trust Him to care for us.
“Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”Matthew 6:26 (KJV)
What does “Birds of the air” mean in Matthew 6:26?
Jesus points to birds as a living lesson in trust. They do not store food in barns, yet the heavenly Father feeds them, and He values people far more than birds.
Going deeper
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Jesus asks us to look, not to think abstractly. Watch a bird for a few minutes. It works hard finding food, but it does not fret about next winter. Jesus says that the Father cares for it, and then draws the conclusion: you are worth much more.
This does not mean we should not work. The birds are busy. It means we can work without being consumed by worry. Anxiety adds nothing, as Jesus points out in the next verse. Go outside today, if you can, and watch the birds. Thank God for His care for them, and then for His care for you. Bring any specific need to Him in prayer, and ask Him for the trust of a bird resting on a branch.

Heavenly Father, thank You for caring for the birds and for caring for me. Teach me to trust You with my needs. In Jesus' name, amen.
