Thanksgiving is the door we enter to come into God's presence.

The psalm pictures pilgrims entering the temple gates and courts with thanks and praise. The reason given is God's character: He is good, His mercy is everlasting, and His truth lasts through every generation.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. The picture is of worshippers coming to the temple in a joyful crowd. Thanks is the way in. It sets our hearts in the right posture before we say anything else. A grateful heart approaches God with open hands, aware of how much has already been given.
Then the psalm gives its reasons: for the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Each phrase can carry us through the day. God is good, so I can trust Him. His mercy is everlasting, so I can begin again. His truth endures to all generations, so I can rely on what He has said. Before you pray for anything else today, spend a minute in thanks. Name specific things, and see how it changes how you approach Him.
