Because God is holy, His people are called to be set apart for Him.

What does “Holiness” mean in 1 Peter 1:16?
The word holy means set apart, marked out for God. Peter is quoting a command from the Old Testament, and he applies it to everyday Christian living.
Going deeper
Peter wrote to believers who felt like outsiders in their society. He reminds them that they belong to a holy God, and he says that this shapes how they live. Holiness is not a matter of looking stern or avoiding all fun. It means being dedicated to God, living in a way that reflects His character in our attitudes, our words, and our choices.
The verse gives us both a command and a reason. The reason is God Himself. We are not asked to become holy through our own effort to earn His approval. We are called to reflect the God whose people we already are. That makes holiness a matter of belonging before it is a matter of behavior. Consider one area of your life where you can live in a way that is more set apart for God this week, and ask Him for the strength to do it.
